PRiM Risk Newsletter No 30 - Insurance Risk

The PRiM Risk Newsletter of June 2011 introduced a tradition of dedicating one Newsletter each year to the area of risk management and insurance. This issue of the PRiM Newsletter continues that tradition. As in last year’s insurance Newsletter, most of the work was coordinated by Laurent Nihoul, AGRC Luxembourg and a member of the PRiM Board of Directors, and performed by the members of the PRiM (Re)Insurance Working Group. We sincerely thank Barbara Bavay (BNP Paribas), Elisabeth Schenckbecher (Ikano), René Arnoldy (Foyer Assurances), Danh Duong (ArcelorMittal), Fred Gabriel (Marsh) and Philippe Goutiere (Chartis) for the time and effort that they dedicated to preparing this issue. Danh Duong recently left ArcelorMittal and the Grand-Duchy, and consequently our working group, to take up a new professional challenge in Vietnam. We thank him for his past commitment and his work within PRiM.

PRiM Risk Newsletter No 29: Sovereign Risk

In the not-too-distant past, sovereign risk, i.e., the risk that a country defaults on its obligations to repay its debts, was often considered a “third world” problem.

The reality of sovereign risk in Europe, however, has recently become all too visible through the difficult situations that several members of the European Union now face.

PRiM Risk Newsletter No 28: Alternative Funds

The publication of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (2011/61/EU, “AIFMD”) on July 1, 2011 was a significant milestone in the European fund industry. While the AIFMD is the most comprehensive regulatory text on alternative funds in Europe, it is also likely to influence traditional UCITS funds, particularly with regard to depositary liability.

PRiM Risk Newsletter No 27: Risk Governance

Although risk governance has always been an extremely important topic, the financial crisis has emphasised the importance of boards of directors and other governing bodies in ensuring the effectiveness of risk management in the entities for which they are responsible.
